Vibro-Acoustics of Violins based on a Multi-Physic Approach
نویسنده
چکیده
The paper attempts to give a contribution to the dynamic analysis of musical instruments through application of a multidisciplinary approach oriented to the study of mechanical, structural, vibratory and acoustical phenomena. The systematic organization of the multidisciplinary study proposed by MUSICOS and some preliminary results related to bowed instruments, with particular reference to violins, are discussed. Key-Words: Vibration, Acoustics, Dynamics, Musical Instruments, Violins, Multi-physics, Modeling.

Measurement of the Effect on Violins of Ageing and Playing
This is a report on the fi rst three years of a long-term experiment designed to measure how two very similar violins change with time. After being constructed ‘in parallel,’ one is stored under controlled conditions in a museum and is played infrequently, while the other is played regularly by a professional musician. Vibro-acoustic measurements were performed on the instruments and parts ther...
متن کاملVibro-acoustic analysis of lightweight composite panels with damping materials
In this paper a numerical model to study the vibro-acoustic behavior of a laminated plate backed by a poroelastic foam layer is developed. Such approach consists on a coupled mitigation strategy aiming either mechanical vibration suppression or acoustic attenuation as well. The laminated plate model consists of fiber laminae with interleaved viscoelastic layers in standard constrained or integr...
متن کاملPlayer preferences among new and old violins.
Most violinists believe that instruments by Stradivari and Guarneri "del Gesu" are tonally superior to other violins--and to new violins in particular. Many mechanical and acoustical factors have been proposed to account for this superiority; however, the fundamental premise of tonal superiority has not yet been properly investigated. Player's judgments about a Stradivari's sound may be biased ...
متن کاملApplication of the wave based prediction technique for the analysis of the coupled vibro-acoustic behaviour of a 3D cavity
In the automotive industry, vehicle interior acoustics has become an important design criterion. Both legal restrictions and the growing demand for comfort, force the car manufacturers to optimize the vibro-acoustic behaviour of their products. The tendency to minimise the number of physical prototypes and to reduce the overall development cost and time, as well as the high performance of moder...
متن کاملDamage detection of multi-girder bridge superstructure based on the modal strain approaches
The research described in this paper focuses on the application of modal strain techniques on a multi-girder bridge superstructure with the objectives of identifying the presence of damage and detecting false damage diagnosis for such structures. The case study is a one-third scale model of a slab-on-girder composite bridge superstructure, comprised of a steel-free concrete deck with FRP rebars...
